Rickshow
Rickshow is a playful and sustainable art project created especially for the Floriade 2012 in Venlo. For the cultural program of this world horticultural exhibition, 2012Architecten designed three mobile stages built from frames of discarded bicycles. These “rickshaws” were pulled by cyclists and provided performers with a stage that could move anywhere — entertainment on wheels, brought directly to the audience.
The Rickshows measured 2 meters long, 2 meters wide, and 4 meters high. They were covered with colorful advertising materials, achieving both reuse and strong visual appeal. The mobile stages could be deployed flexibly throughout the outdoor program, quite literally following the audience to wherever people preferred to gather.
Mothership developed the concept and was responsible for the design and overall execution. The project was produced on behalf of Cultuurbedrijf BV for the Floriade 2012. Rickshow stands as a striking example of how sustainability, mobility, and culture can come together in an innovative and accessible form.
