Rolling Tweed, Around the Castle

A castle route, a stylish bike ride, and an ode to the Achterhoek — that’s Rolling Tweed, Around the Castle. This unique event is part of the Tot Slot campaign in Bronckhorst, through which the municipality celebrates and promotes its rich heritage of castles and estates. Mothership was involved in the first two editions in 2023 and 2024, responsible for concept development, project management, execution, and curatorship.

Participants cycled in classic tweed outfits past the most beautiful castles in the region. From grand estates to hidden gems, the route offered plenty of opportunities to enjoy the scenery, good company, and a generous dose of style. The procession was delightfully diverse — from vintage Copenhagen Pedersens and locally made Empo bicycles to modern e-bikes — everyone rolled along at the same pace.

People from all over the country came to the Achterhoek to take part, and local pride was palpable — residents saw their region at its very best. The event was such a success that the Municipality of Bronckhorst will take over its organization from 2025 onward. Rolling Tweed has since grown into a lasting tradition — stylish, social, and unmistakably Achterhoeks.
