In 2019, VisitBrabant approached Mothership to develop a powerful concept for the Brabant Remembers campaign, marking 75 years of liberation. At its heart were personal stories from World War II that profoundly changed people\u2019s lives \u2014 the so-called \u201ccrossroads.\u201d These pivotal moments became the foundation for Crossroads Brabant 40\/45: Life Changing War Stories.<\/p>\n

For this, Mothership designed the Dilemma Doolhof (\u201cDilemma Maze\u201d): a mobile installation in which visitors intensely experience one of these stories. In a labyrinth of white crosses \u2014 symbolizing the victims of war \u2014 participants follow a path guided by an audio narrative. At every fork, they must make choices that lead them down different routes, confronting the same moral dilemmas that once changed lives \u2014 and may do so again. The design is intentionally minimal: everything is white, ensuring a pure, focused, and auditory experience.<\/p>\n

The installation was placed in the forest near the Field of Honour in Bergen op Zoom, between the Canadian and British war cemeteries. Here, hundreds of soldiers are buried who lost their lives during the Battle of the Scheldt.<\/p>\n

Mothership was responsible for the concept, design, production, and project coordination. As an expert in visualizing social themes, the studio succeeded in powerfully merging content and form. The Dilemma Doolhof became an artistic translation of a moral question \u2014 one that resonated deeply with both young people and adults.<\/p>\n

In just six months, the Dilemma Doolhof attracted over 10,000 visitors. Schools incorporated its moral questions into their teaching programs, and responses from both the public and the media were overwhelmingly positive. Visitors spoke of \u201ctough choices\u201d and \u201cdeepened respect,\u201d while Trouw newspaper described the maze as \u201ca training ground for moral awareness.\u201d On social media, one user captured the sentiment succinctly: \u201cRemarkable is an understatement.\u201d<\/p>\n

With the Dilemma Doolhof, Mothership gave a layered and meaningful interpretation to the commemoration of 75 years of freedom.<\/p>\n
