Under Construction #2

London Police, Ephameron, Dstruct, Lastplak, Mackplakt, 2003

After a successful first edition at Showroom MaMa in Rotterdam, Under Construction #2 brought the raw energy of the street to De Strip in Vlaardingen West in 2003. The exhibition space was set up in a vacant supermarket — a location that gradually transformed into a street art ghetto. For three months, the site served as an open studio and stage for fifty artists, who were given free rein to do what they do best: create, paste, spray, and stamp.

The exhibition focused on the emerging culture of stickers, stencils, and posters — a creative explosion born from the graffiti scene. What began as an alternative outlet evolved into an autonomous visual language that defied the conventions of the established art world.

Mothership was responsible for the execution and project management and acted as curator. Under Construction #2 approached street art not as an art movement, but as a cultural phenomenon that manifests itself unfiltered in the contemporary city. The result was raw, honest, and groundbreaking — exactly as street culture is meant to be.
