Tuinpad van Overschie

Rick Messemaker & Arjo Rozendaal, 2012

Langs het tuinpad van Overschie is an ode to the quintessential Dutch polder landscape, created in 2012 along the A13 near Overschie. Initiated by Rijkswaterstaat and the Overschie borough, photographers Rick Messemaker and Arjo Rozendaal produced a panoramic photograph of the village and its surrounding landscape. The title references the famous Dutch song “Langs het tuinpad van mijn vader” by Wim Sonneveld, evoking a sense of nostalgia and familiarity.

The project transformed 50 meters of otherwise dull sound barriers into a visual gateway to Overschie. Its goal was to improve the neighborhood’s image for commuters and passersby who normally only glimpse the area in passing from the highway.

Mothership curated, coordinated, and executed the project, with thanks to the involvement of Rijkswaterstaat, the Overschie borough, the municipality of Rotterdam, and Rocka.
