Tijdverkijker

Geert Mul, 2009

Geert Mul designed the interactive artwork Tijdverkijker in 2009 for the Multi Functional Accommodation (MFA) Malberg in Maastricht. On the roof of the building, a camera continuously records the surroundings in 360 degrees — day and night, through all seasons. Visitors can use an aluminum turning wheel not only to look around but also to travel back in time by viewing the footage in fast motion.

On a wall of multiple screens, a cinematic experience unfolds in which the landscape transforms — a visual journey through time where architecture, nature, and the seasons converge. The software was developed by Carlo Prelz, and the artwork poetically renders the relationship between the building and its surroundings tangible.

Tijdverkijker was curated, coordinated, and produced by Mothership, commissioned by the Municipality of Maastricht and Stichting Jong Leren, with special thanks to Nicolette Gast.
