The Dedication of Soul
During the 2004 North festival in Amsterdam, Japanese artist Masahiro Fukuyama presented The Dedication of the Soul. This sculptural object functions as armor for the artist’s guardian angel. The wings, made of Kevlar and faux fur, combine symbolic strength with tangible softness. Kevlar represents protection and resilience, while the faux fur adds a more human and vulnerable layer. Together, they embody the tension between safety and surrender. With this work, Fukuyama explores the role of spirituality and inner strength. Mothership produced the project, making this poetic installation possible within the context of an international and experimental festival.
