Sterker door Strijd

Nafer Loves You, 2007

In a playful and slightly anarchic nod to old forms of public shaming, visitors to the Wereld van de Witte de With art festival in 2009 were given the chance to literally put friends and foes on display. Using colored gaffer tape, people stuck each other onto mobile walls, which were then rolled through the street like cheerful, modern-day pillories.

The mural references global themes but is firmly rooted in the Rotterdam context. The city’s motto, “Stronger Through Struggle,” gains new depth through Nafer’s colorful and expressive visual language. Known for his socially engaged approach to public art, he infuses the work with both local pride and universal resonance.

The project was initiated by Mothership, which developed the concept, guided the participation process, and carried out the execution in collaboration with Stichting Tema, with support from CBK Rotterdam and the Cool neighborhood organization.
