Rotterdam Verlicht!

In the winter of 2020, Rotterdam Verlicht! (Rotterdam Illuminated!) brought light to a city longing for hope and connection. Mothership conceived the concept, designed the approach, and led the entire project — from community engagement with residents and entrepreneurs to full execution and organization.

Across Rotterdam, squares, shopping streets, and landmark buildings were illuminated in ways that reflected their unique identity and history. There were no events or scheduled programs — just light as a powerful symbol of connection. What began as a gesture of support for the hospitality and retail sectors during the pandemic evolved into a citywide project with lasting impact — conceived and realized by Mothership, together with the people of Rotterdam.
