Rotterdam. Make It Happen
In 2018, British artist Ian Kirkpatrick added his contribution to Rotterdam’s Make It Happen street art series with a colorful and layered mural on a blind wall along the Kruiskade. His work bursts with icons and symbols that together create a vivid image of the city in all its diversity and motion.
Kirkpatrick’s style is graphic and intricate, blending classical imagery with digital visual references to create a powerful and contemporary work of art. The mural invites exploration — the longer you look, the more Rotterdam references emerge, from the Erasmus Bridge to architectural and cultural motifs woven throughout the composition.
Although this contribution does not include a physical interactive element such as steps or seating, the work itself serves as an invitation to visual interaction — encouraging photos, conversation, and a sense of wonder in the public space. Commissioned by the Municipality of Rotterdam, Mothership developed the concept, oversaw execution and project management, and acted as curator of the entire project.
