Rotterdam. Make It Happen
As part of the urban street art program Make It Happen, Calvin Sprague created a mural in 2017 on the façade of music venue Annabel on Delftsestraat in Rotterdam. The vibrant artwork reflects the city’s dynamic energy and plays with abstract and graphic forms reminiscent of a lively deck of cards.
The interactive nature of the mural lies in its physical additions to the public space: small platforms and benches were placed in front of the artwork, allowing passersby to literally become part of the image. Visitors can pose within the design and capture their own moment, making the connection between art and audience tangible.
This mural was the third work in the series, following earlier contributions by Bart Smeets and Daan Botlek. Commissioned by the Municipality of Rotterdam, Mothership developed the concept, oversaw execution and project management, and acted as curator of the entire project.
