Studio Léon&Loes, 2011
As part of the theme year Leve de Molens (Long Live the Windmills), artist duo Studio Léon & Loes created the poetic art project Points of View in 2011. Spread across four locations in South Holland — at the windmills of Schiedam, Vlist, Aarlanderveen, and Rijpwetering — they installed monumental, hand-embroidered “flour sacks” that served as both seating and listening objects.
Visitors could sit on these embroidered objects and, by dialing a phone number, listen to the story of the windmill before them. They could also record their own memories or anecdotes. The fabric coverings were created in the style of a traditional Dutch sampler, crafted with the help of a large group of enthusiastic embroidery lovers — both young and old.
