Molengebouw Den Bosch

The Molengebouw at the Tramkade is deeply rooted in the industrial history of ’s-Hertogenbosch. For decades, it housed the De Heus animal feed factory, where raw materials were processed through a fully vertical production system. Using freight elevators, screw conveyors, hammer mills, mixers, and screening installations, materials moved through the building from top to bottom. The building operated as one vast industrial machine, shaping the rhythm of the city for many years.

For the redevelopment of the Molengebouw, Mothership developed a concept vision that translated the building’s industrial heritage into a contemporary identity. At the heart of the proposal was a monumental, double, slowly rotating spiral staircase, conceived as a sculptural interpretation of the building’s original mechanical core. The staircase would guide visitors through the monument while becoming a new landmark for the Tramkade. Although the proposal was ultimately not realized, it demonstrates how heritage, technology, and imagination can be combined to create a distinctive identity.
