Legende Tunnel

The Muizengaatje, the railway underpass at Bergweg–Straatweg in Rotterdam, was selected by the district councils of Noord and Hillegersberg-Schiebroek for an artistic transformation. Threesome (Marjon van der Velden, Gino Catshoek, and Kim Visser) created the winning design, depicting two local icons: football legend Coen Moulijn from Noord and Hillegonda, the mythical founder of Hillegersberg.

Threesome is a learning and working program in which Mothership, together with Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences and the Willem de Kooning Academy, gives students the opportunity to work on real art commissions. In multidisciplinary teams, they develop artistic concepts under professional guidance — with the best proposal ultimately being brought to life.

Threesome developed the concept and design, and also handled the execution and project management, supported by Mothership. The murals, painted by Reclameatelier Leo Mineur, transformed the Muizengaatje into a colorful and meaningful visual narrative — connecting past and present, and turning the tunnel into a place of recognition and pride for the local community.
