Kristal Growth
In the impressive entrance hall of Amsterdam’s Solid 11 building, designed by architect Tony Fretton, shines the artwork Kristal Growth by artist Hans van Bentem. Commissioned by housing corporation Stadgenoot, Van Bentem created fifteen crystal-shaped objects reminiscent of a tree’s leaves. These reflective crystals, made of one-way vision glass, are mounted on tree-like metal structures. The artwork, measuring an impressive 25 meters high and 15 meters wide, takes on a magical dimension at night as the RGB LED lighting makes the crystals glow like jewels in the dark.
With this work, Van Bentem not only creates a visual ode to nature within an urban context, but also transforms the architectural space into an enchanting landscape where light and reflection take center stage. Kristal Growth is a perfect example of how art, technology, and architecture can merge to create an inspiring experience for residents and visitors alike.
The project management of the artwork was handled by Mothership. The realization was made possible with the support of Kunst & Bedrijf.
