Kai Tak Show
The Kai Tak Show is a conceptual proposal by Mothership and Studio MAUC for a spectacular, multi-sensory evening experience in the heart of the future Kai Tak Sports Park in Hong Kong.
The concept draws inspiration from the iconic history of the site: until 1998, it was home to the legendary Kai Tak Airport, famous for its dramatic and high-risk landings between the city’s skyscrapers.
With the arrival of the new sports park, the location is being transformed — from airfield to vibrant hub for sports, culture, and entertainment.
To make this transition tangible and memorable, Mothership envisions a visually and physically striking installation: a circle of decommissioned airplanes, positioned upright on their tails, with their noses pointing inward, all connected by a central platform.
By day, the structure serves as an observation point overlooking the sports park; by night, it becomes the stage for a unique, multi-sensory evening show that unites the past, present, and future of Kai Tak.
The show is conceived as a Show 3.0 — an experience that engages not only sight and sound, but also smell, touch, and taste.
Where the world-famous Symphony of Lights impresses visually, the Kai Tak Show aims to stimulate all the senses.
Visitors hear the roar of descending airplanes, smell kerosene and grass, feel vibrations and mist, and see water projections of athletes and aircraft. They even taste a specially created cocktail, served by stewardesses dressed in outfits that blend aviation and sport.
The Kai Tak Show is designed as an iconic attraction for residents and tourists alike — an unmissable experience that, through its striking form and sensory power, naturally spreads across social media.
It is the perfect start to an evening in vibrant Hong Kong — a new tradition, rooted in the past, yet looking boldly toward the future.
