Jut – Database van Schreeuwend Nederland 01
During the Wereld van de Witte de With festival in 2006, a black minivan drove through the city under the name JUT – Database van Schreeuwend Nederland, a project by Willum Geerts, commissioned by CJP.
This interactive mobile installation invited visitors to step inside the van and — quite literally — scream their hearts out. Each scream was recorded and archived in an online database: a digital collection of the Dutch voice, raw and unfiltered.
JUT – Database van Schreeuwend Nederland (JUT – Database of Screaming Holland) was inspired by one of the Netherlands’ favorite pastimes: shouting for no reason at all.
Between 2005 and 2009, JUT collected over 8,000 screams, all archived in an online database.
The project revolved around expression, release, and the act of making emotions both visible and audible in a society that often demands restraint.
The work was presented as part of the outdoor program of Wereld van de Witte de With 2006, commissioned by Rotterdam Festivals. Mothership was responsible for the project management and acted as curator.
