Jewels
By day, the artwork shimmers through its reflective glass; by night, it transforms into a vivid, sparkling jewel. From just the right spot on the nostalgically Italian-styled Pimpernelstraat in Rotterdam-Zuid, one can see a diadem and earrings. With this piece, Hans van Bentem sought to highlight and celebrate the beauty of both the street and its residents.
Jewels consists of a crown and a necklace, crafted from reflective glass, stainless steel, and LED lighting. Each piece measures one meter in diameter and is suspended above the street. The project was commissioned by the Centrum Beeldende Kunst Rotterdam, with support from Vestia Rotterdam Feijenoord. Mothership was responsible for the production.
