Innercity Sculpture

Sober Industries, 2011

On February 10, 2012, a spectacular artwork was unveiled in the heart of Nieuwegein: Innercity Sculpture by the Rotterdam-based collective Sober Industries. The monumental sculpture depicts two wooden streams of water colliding, serving as a powerful symbol of dynamism and connection.

What makes this installation unique is the use of 3D mapping: futuristic animations are projected onto the wooden surface at night, perfectly following the sculpture’s contours. The result is a constantly shifting play of light that immerses viewers in a visual flow of movement and color.

The artwork was presented at Laag Raadstede in Nieuwegein and was an initiative of the Municipality of Nieuwegein, with Mothership acting as curator and producer. Innercity Sculpture exemplifies how technology, art, and public space can merge into a powerful and inspiring whole.
