Haven in de Stad

Haven in de Stad (Harbor in the City) is an artwork that quite literally brings the port into the heart of Rotterdam. In a surprising way, it intertwines the industrial character of the harbor with everyday urban life, prompting reflection on how deeply the city and its port are connected. Massive ship chains wind through the public space like the city’s own roots — robust, unmistakable, and full of character.

Mothership was involved in this project from the very first idea, taking on the roles of concept developer, curator, producer, and project manager. In close collaboration with the artist and the city, we ensured that the work makes not only a visual impact but also carries emotional and conceptual depth. Haven in de Stad (Harbor in the City) is an ode to Rotterdam’s identity — raw, powerful, and always in motion.
