GRRR Jamming Squeak

Paola Pivi, 2010

GRRR JAMMING SQUEAK was a temporary public art project on the Coolsingel in Rotterdam. Italian artist Paola Pivi created a fully functional professional recording studio in the middle of the city — but with a twist: all music had to be made using animal sounds. The studio featured a wide range of musical instruments, recording equipment, and technical support, along with a vast collection of rare animal sound recordings. For an entire year, the studio was open to everyone — free and accessible.

The project quite literally gave the city a wildly good sound and was part of the multi-year program of Sculpture International Rotterdam. Mothership handled the production and coordination of this unique sonic experiment.
