Geen Woorden Maar Daden!

Hans van Bentem, 2008

To mark the 100th anniversary of football club Feyenoord, artist Hans van Bentem created an impressive artwork titled Geen Woorden Maar Daden! (No Words But Deeds!) commissioned by the supporters’ association. The piece was inspired by an old illustration depicting a muscular arm lifting the stadium from the River Maas. Van Bentem reinterpreted this powerful image as a bronze sculpture of an arm holding a globe, rendered in the club’s iconic red and white colors. It symbolizes the worldwide support of Het Legioen — the devoted community that forms the world of Feyenoord.

The sculpture stands 2.5 meters tall and 6.3 meters wide, cast in bronze, finished with gold leaf, and hand-painted. It was ceremoniously unveiled on July 19, 2008, at Feyenoord Stadium — better known as De Kuip. To commemorate the club’s centenary, twenty smaller replicas of the sculpture were also produced, acquired by some of the team’s most dedicated fans.

Mothership acted as curator, coordinator, and producer of the project.
