DRTV
Before De Rotterdam was opened as a multifunctional building featuring offices, apartments, restaurants, a hotel, and more, it first served as the backdrop for a striking art project: DRTV. In the summer of 2013, Mothership, together with the building’s developers, brought the façade project to life. During the evening hours, massive black-and-white images and texts were projected onto the still-under-construction façade. These unexpected slideshows, visible from the quay, invited passersby to pause and take notice.
The first series of images came from photographer Ruud Sies, who had been documenting the construction and its workers since the beginning. Through a participation process initiated by Mothership, local residents were invited to submit their own texts and images — actively contributing to the emerging identity of their city.
Mothership was responsible for concept development, community engagement, execution, and project management — a temporary artwork with lasting impact.
