Bloemenketting
During the Wereld van de Witte de With festival in 2007 — themed Heroes — artist collective Blossum presented the project Bloemenketting (Flower Chain). At the Blossum stall, visitors were invited to create beautiful flower garlands for their own personal heroes. Thousands of dahlias were ready to be transformed into colorful, handmade creations — gestures of appreciation, admiration, or love.
With this interactive installation, Blossum invited the public to reflect on who their heroes are and to make that recognition visible. In a time when heroism is often celebrated on a grand, public stage, Blossum brought it back to a human scale: a garland made of flowers and care — a simple, heartfelt symbol of gratitude.
This project was presented during the annual art festival, commissioned by Rotterdam Festivals. Mothership acted as curator, guided the participation process, and was responsible for the project’s execution and coordination.
