Bierkrattenmozaïek “Bennie Jolink”

Arno Coenen, 2003

As part of the ‘Year of the Farm’ in 2003, Arno Coenen created a monumental portrait of rock legend Bennie Jolink (lead singer of Normaal), constructed from no fewer than 2,500 empty beer crates. The mosaic covered an area of 12 by 12 metres — 50 crates wide and high — and was installed at the De Meer farm in Angeren. With this playful nod to both rural life and pop culture, Coenen expressed his fascination with symbolism, contemporary icons, and the reuse of everyday materials. The project was produced by Mothership.
