Battle of the Towers
During Wereld van de Witte de With 2005, the colorful and energetic project Battle of the Towers took place — a live graffiti battle on two towers in the heart of Rotterdam’s Witte de Withstraat. Two teams of five artists each, from Rotterdam and Antwerp, set to work transforming their towers into towering artworks. The teams faced off in a creative competition full of style, color, and bravado, with the audience engaged from start to finish.
The participating artists from Antwerp were Ephameron, Bertlezy, Natalie, Gulp, Gun-t, Herr Wardo, Kolchoz, AF, Mackplakt, Melvin, and Serge Baeken. Representing Rotterdam were P. Bloem, Oles, Lastplak, Pinwin, Mr. Smith, Cosh, Thor, Ces, Dush, Onno, Aniel, and Bas.
The project was part of the festival theme “Antwerp, the Mirror of Rotterdam” and served as a powerful symbol of artistic exchange between the two cities. The graffiti battle highlighted the vitality of street culture as a platform for both connection and confrontation. Mothership developed the concept, acted as curator, coordinated the project, and was ultimately responsible for its execution.
