Rotterdam. Make It Happen

Eelco van den Berg, 2017

As the fourth contribution to the Make It Happen street art series, artist IamEelco (Eelco van den Berg) created a vibrant mural in 2017 on the corner of Bloemkwekerstraat and Nieuwe Binnenweg in Rotterdam. The work depicts a lively composition of animals — including an owl, deer, toucan, sparrow, pigeon, and dog — that together form a whimsical, almost fairytale-like world.

At the center of this world lies a fox with pointed ears, seemingly stepping off the wall and onto the sidewalk. Especially for this mural, a mosaic bench in the shape of the fox was installed, inviting visitors to sit down. In doing so, they literally become part of the artwork — the perfect spot for the ultimate selfie in this urban jungle.

The mural not only adds color and character to the streetscape but also emphasizes participation and experience. Commissioned by the Municipality of Rotterdam, Mothership developed the concept, oversaw execution and project management, and acted as curator of the entire project.
