Zonnepark Spijk
Zonnepark Spijk is a conceptual solar park developed by Mothership in collaboration with K3Delta as part of the plans for a new overnight harbor near Spijk. Although not yet realized, the concept envisions an integrated approach in which green energy, tourism, nature development, and cultural significance converge.
At the heart of the plan lies a solar park that not only provides sustainable shore power for inland vessels but also offers a visual and historical experience. The solar panels are designed as the shields of a Roman legion, arranged in battle formation within a former clay depot. This design references the Roman history of the area while simultaneously ensuring efficient solar energy production. Additional usable space, such as storage areas, could be created beneath the panels.
Around the solar field, poplar and medlar trees — species with both historical and aesthetic significance — are planted, while walking and cycling paths along the dikes invite visitors to explore the area. A repurposed Bailey bridge serves as both a viewing platform and visitor center, complete with a café, making the site accessible and inviting.
The concept transforms essential infrastructure into a tourist and educational attraction, giving the area around Spijk a new boost as a sustainable and culturally rich destination.
