Virtual Fairytale 2.0

Virtual Fairytale 2.0 is an artwork by Arno Coenen, specially designed for the forum building Hart van Noord on Trumanlaan 60 in Utrecht. Commissioned by the Municipality of Utrecht and created in close collaboration with the building’s users — De Panda, De Lukasschool, Zeven Gavenschool, and Doenja Dienstverlening — Coenen realized a large-scale mosaic integrated into the pavement in front of the building.

The mosaic consists of colored concrete tiles measuring 15×15 cm and spans an impressive area of approximately 20 by 64 meters, making it visible even on Google Earth. The design incorporates input from all participating organizations, resulting in a cheerful and dynamic composition filled with contemporary fairytale figures inspired by computer games. The artwork perfectly reflects the imagination and everyday world of the children who visit the building.

Mothership developed the concept, facilitated the participation process, produced the artwork, and supervised the project from design to completion.
