The World is Yours

Since 2015, the artwork THE WORLD IS YOURS by artists Arno Coenen and Iris Roskam has adorned Tiendplein in Rotterdam-West. The piece features a monumental globe over four meters in diameter, crafted from ceramic and mosaic. Resting on a classically styled pedestal, it is richly decorated with colorful patterns, symbols, and ornaments from various cultures.

The title refers to the famous line “The world is yours” from the film Scarface (1983), but here it takes on a broader, more hopeful meaning: an encouragement to claim the world — and one’s place within it. The artwork reflects the cultural diversity of the neighborhood and symbolizes global citizenship, connection, and pride.

With its bold visual language and decorative richness, THE WORLD IS YOURS is not only a work of art but also a meeting point and a recognizable landmark in the neighborhood. By day, it stands as a beautifully transparent symbol of Rotterdam’s international spirit; by night, it becomes a festive beacon for those enjoying the terraces of Tiendplein and Kruiskade — with the world at your feet and the stars above your head.
