Straat
For the project Kunst in de Wijken, commissioned by Stichting Beeldende Kunst Middelburg, artist Edwin Zwakman created Straat. In close collaboration with local residents, he designed an exact miniature replica of a row of houses on the Stadhouderslaan in Middelburg-Zuid. The scale model, built at 1:20, was installed directly in the water in front of the real houses. The sculpture, made of polyester and polyurethane foam, measures 45 cm high, 250 cm wide, and 39 cm deep.
With Straat, Zwakman aimed to create a small, unexpected moment of wonder — inviting passers-by to look at their everyday surroundings in a new way. The artwork demonstrates how familiar architecture can take on a poetic quality when placed in a different context. Mothership was responsible for the execution and coordination.
