Situated
Situated by Maze de Boer is a poetic and contemplative artwork that explores the connection between past and present, play and reflection. Located along the N34 in the Emmen region — an area where tourism, agriculture, and nature converge — the work consists of concrete elements reminiscent of a fairground. But this time without the noise: no lights, no sound, no color — only silence and form.
The objects are playful in function but carry a heavy, monumental presence — like contemporary dolmens. They offer children a place to climb, explore, and expend their energy, while inviting adults to rediscover their own sense of wonder. In the shadow of the prehistoric dolmens that define the region, Situated raises questions about the times we live in — about what endures and what fades away. How will future generations look back on our lives?
With this work, Maze de Boer creates a silent fairground that — despite its quietness — lets the imagination speak loudly. Mothership acted as curator and oversaw the project management.
