Plantin en Moretus

In 2011, the entrance to the city of Antwerp along the Plantin en Moretuslei underwent a colorful transformation thanks to artist duo Studio Ruwedata (NL) and Ephameron (BE). Under the banner of the Buurt aan de Beurt project and in collaboration with Mothership, a dull viaduct was transformed into an artistic tribute to the famous Plantin and Moretus printing families.

Geïnspireerd door het gelijknamige museum, verwerkten de kunstenaars historische portretten, negentiende-eeuwse afbeeldingen, typografische patronen en sjablonen in een imposante graffiti-installatie.
Het resultaat is een levendig en gelaagd werk van 2 hellingen van elk 50 meter lang en 2,5 meter hoog, plus 13 beschilderde kolommen.

The project stands as an ode to the rich printing tradition of the Low Countries, bringing the graphic heritage of Plantin and Moretus back to life in today’s public space. Mothership acted as curator, project manager, and producer of the project.
