Pianotrap
The Piano Staircase was an initiative by Mothership, developed in collaboration with ProRail and NS, as part of a broader campaign to encourage stair use. Mothership was responsible for the project’s execution and coordination.
The installation proved to be a real crowd-pleaser, demonstrating how art and technology can playfully enrich everyday life. In 2016, the entrance of Rotterdam Central Station was temporarily transformed into a musical surprise: the Piano Staircase. This interactive installation invited travelers to skip the escalator and take the stairs instead — with each step triggering a piano note. In a playful way, it encouraged movement and interaction, leaving everyone with a smile.
