Livesaver

Rob Sweere, 2007

During the 2007 edition of the Wereld van de Witte de With festival, Rob Sweere presented his work Livesaver. This project consisted of two inflatable domes in which visitors could lie down and gaze at the sky, surrounded by soothing sounds of the ocean and the universe.

Livesaver offered a moment of stillness and introspection in the bustling heart of Rotterdam. The serene experience encouraged reflection on humanity’s place within the greater whole of nature, technology, and society. The work tied into the festival’s theme, Heroes, but turned away from the heroism of action and spectacle. Instead, it invited visitors to experience their own senses as the hero—by pausing, being present, and simply existing.

The installation was produced by Mothership and was part of the outdoor program, curated in collaboration with September in Rotterdam (Rotterdam Festivals).
