Love for the Achterhoek

Rob Sweere is known for his sculptural installations that invite stillness, reflection, and an intense experience of the surroundings. With this Loveseat, he adds a special chapter to the Liefdespad in Ruurlo: a seating object that places love for one another — and for the landscape — at its heart.

This Loveseat is no ordinary bench. It is an invitation to shared contemplation — a place where two people can sit side by side and explore the horizon together. Its curved shape gently turns users toward each other, while also opening them up to the outside world — to the nature of the Achterhoek, unfolding before them like a living painting.

Sweere’s work functions here as a sensory gateway: whoever takes a seat in this Loveseat becomes aware of the calm, the air, the greenery. His minimalist yet deliberate design language enhances the awareness of place and time — as if, for a moment, you are standing outside the world, in a shared moment of being.

In the context of the Liefdespad, this Loveseat is an ode to connection — not only between people, but also between humans and the landscape. Sweere reminds us how valuable it is to pause for a moment, to look together, to simply be together — and in doing so, to look lovingly at the Achterhoek.
