Goldfinger
During the Rotterdam Museum Night in 2006, Studio VollaersZwart presented Goldfinger, a project in which thousands of moon-shaped golden helium balloons attached to strings were handed out to visitors. As participants carried them through the city during the evening’s museum program, a poetic procession of shimmering lights emerged. The simple act of holding a balloon became a shared experience, temporarily transforming the cityscape into a reflective and festive artwork.
The city served as the stage for this collective performance of light and movement, with every visitor becoming part of the artwork. Mothership played an advisory role and assisted in the realization of this temporary public art project. Goldfinger was a playful, visually striking, and socially engaging work that made powerful use of simple symbolism.
