Feyenoord Plaquette
In 2008, Rotterdam celebrated the 100th anniversary of football club Feyenoord. To mark the occasion, a special plaque was unveiled, designed by artist Cirque de Pepin — the alter ego of Pepijn van den Nieuwendijk. The plaque marks the historic location where Feyenoord was founded: the former café De Vereeniging at Damstraat 2.
The artwork consists of hand-painted ceramic tiles finished with gold and silver. Measuring 50 by 120 centimeters, it is a modest yet powerful tribute to a century of football history. The plaque not only commemorates the founding of the club but also embodies the proud, working-class spirit of Rotterdam South and its iconic football team.
The commission for this work came from the Feijenoord district, with Mothership responsible for production and project management. Thanks to this collaboration, an artwork was created that holds both cultural and historical significance for the city and its residents.
