Braincar
During the Wereld van de Witte de With festival in 2006, Olaf Mooij presented his iconic Braincar. By day, this remarkable vehicle drove through the city, recording images of its surroundings. As night fell, the car returned to its “sleeping spot” and began to dream: the collected footage was projected onto the inner surface of its brain-shaped roof.
With Braincar, Mooij offered a humorous yet philosophical twist on the idea of a vehicle as both memory and processor of impressions. The car became a hybrid between an everyday object and a living organism — a driving brain that observed by day and reflected by night. The sculpture raised questions about technology, consciousness, and the role of art within our urban environment.
Braincar was te zien tijdens het jaarlijkse kunstfestival “World of Witte de With 2006” in Rotterdam en werd gepresenteerd in het kader van “September in Rotterdam”. De curatie en het projectmanagement was in handen van Mothership.
