Analogue Augmented Reality

Mothership, 2012

Seven young Rotterdam-based architects — Maurizio Scarciglia, Michel Heesen, Sander van Schaik and Robert-Jan de Kort, Erik Moederscheim, Michiel Raaphorst, Ebami Tom, and Joren Vis — created designs proposing more housing and greenery for Rotterdam’s sparsely populated city center. The seven striking objects were placed along the ZigZagCity route during the International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam, aiming to draw the attention of both local residents and festival visitors. By positioning the drawings on, against, or in front of the buildings they reference — and then photographing and sharing them — the analogue concept of the glass plates is once again transformed into a digital experience.

Commissioned by the Municipality of Rotterdam, Mothership developed the concept for Augmented Reality and also served as producer, curator, and project manager.
