2 Brüder von Venlo

Arno Coenen, 2013

The artwork Die 2 Brüder von Venlo by Arno Coenen was unveiled on December 13, 2013, at the roundabout on Goltziusstraat in Venlo. The steel sculpture was donated by the supermarket chain of the same name to mark its 50th anniversary. The work combines baroque elements with references to trade and origin, inspired by the history of the German brothers who built their successful retail empire in Venlo. Although the design initially sparked debate due to its distinctly German appearance, it was ultimately well received after a few adjustments.

Mothership acted as producer and guided the project from concept to installation, facilitating collaboration between the artist, the client, and the municipality, and ensuring a smooth technical and artistic execution. The metalwork was carried out by Matthijs Bijpost of Wilwy, who was responsible for the fabrication of the complex steel structure.
